Searching for sewage

Pooh!! We’ve had a little problem with slow drainage in the kitchen sink, and decided to try to find the septic tank, in case it needed to be emptied. After digging holes in random places around the sides of the house to follow the paths of drainage pipes, we eventually found that there are not just one but two tanks to take waste water, both full and in need of emptying. More holes were needed to find out where pipes leaving the tanks went on their journeys to soakaways. The smell is indescribable, and we have not even finished yet!
The dogs have found the smell delightful.
